The problem
When someone receives an IRS or state tax notice, they usually have to find a CPA just to understand what it says and what they need to do.
CPA firms have the opposite problem. Clients forward notices by email, with no intake structure, so every notice starts from scratch: someone has to open it, read it, work out what kind of notice it is and what it asks for, before any real advice can happen.
What I did
I'm the lead engineer. The product has two flows built on one shared document layer.
For individuals. Upload a notice, the system reads and analyzes it, and returns a clear explanation of what it means and what to do next.
For CPA firms. Each firm gets a branded intake link to share with its clients. Notices arrive already analyzed, so the firm can answer straight away instead of starting from a forwarded email.
The document layer. Underneath both flows is the part I care most about: an OCR layer built on Azure Document Intelligence, and the extraction algorithms that turn a scanned or photographed notice into structured data the product can reason about.
SOC 2 Type II. Enterprise clients asked for SOC 2, so I'm leading the whole effort. I wrote the policy and control documentation, implemented the technical controls across the product, and prepared the company for its observation window, which is now under way.
Enterprise API. An API for enterprise customers is in progress.
The result
- Live and revenue-generating.
- SOC 2 Type II observation window in progress.
- Enterprise API in progress.
